Common mistake: coming to a full stop during the pivot -- something a defender in a real game would exploit immediately.
A skating-focused practice works better with a rough order rather than a random mix of drills. A simple progression: a light warm-up, then fundamentals (balance, edges, stride) while the player is still fresh, then a focused skill for that day -- crossovers one session, backward skating another -- followed by a short game-situation piece that connects it to something that actually happens in a shift.
